Viva in Saudi Arabia: the Landmark Group grocery discounter, now in Riyadh

From the UAE to Riyadh

Viva is a grocery discounter that belongs to Landmark Group, the Dubai-based retail company led by chairwoman and CEO Renuka Jagtiani. It was announced in February 2018 as the first food discounter brand of its kind in the region, with a first store at Grand Avenue in Sharjah and a promise that the shops would be fresher, cheaper and better. The model was inspired by a German discount supermarket chain: a compact range of roughly twelve hundred products, a lot of own-brand goods, and goods sourced from European and Asian markets.

Saudi Arabia came much later. In late 2024 Landmark listed a Saudi launch for 2025 as part of a wider expansion plan, and the first two Saudi stores finally opened in Riyadh on 18 January 2026, in the Mounsiyah area and on King Fahad Road. That made the Kingdom the third GCC market after the UAE and Oman. Anyone searching for viva supermarket in a Saudi city should know that this is a young presence, limited so far to the capital.

What a Viva trip looks like

The press coverage of the Riyadh launch describes affordable groceries, fresh produce and baked goods, much like the UAE shops, and says Viva wants to become a key tenant at the Oro Square development by Al Saedan. A third-party catalogue site now lists four Riyadh branches: in Al Olaya along King Fahd Road, in two Al Munisiyah locations, and in Al Nahdah at Khurais Plaza. Because the official count from the launch was two, treat any longer list as a guide and confirm the exact address before you set off.

The UAE record helps explain the format. By September 2019 the brand had sixteen stores in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, the Dubai Marina shop was around six thousand square feet, and the chain said it bought directly from more than a hundred suppliers. A small footprint with a limited range means you will not find everything on a long list. Plan to pair Viva with a bigger store such as Carrefour, Dukan or Al Raya for brands it does not carry.
